This year’s National Care Awards Gala Presentation Night was a big birthday party held in late November. It was the 15th consecutive year the longest established and most respected care awards have been held and, with almost 750 people attending, joyously celebrated the very best people in the long-term care sector.

The glittering evening was sponsored by Christie + Co who have been sponsors for 15 consecutive years and held at Europe’s biggest hotel complex, the London Hilton Metropole Hotel, the same venue for the last 15 years. Head of healthcare for Christie’s, Richard Lunn, reminisced about what it was like to live 15 years ago. He recalled that Google had just been founded, Bill Clinton had been impeached and Titanic was a smash-hit film.

The Champagne Reception was sponsored by Barchester Healthcare who later sponsored a photo booth which proved very popular with guests wanting to capture and broadcast by social media their moments of fun and success. Hosts for the evening were former England cricketer Phil Tufnell who went on to achieve even greater fame by winning ‘I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here’, and Sky Sports presenter Olivia Wayne. Together they made each winner feel very special as they came to the stage, amid rapturous applause, to receive their trophy from the category sponsor.

The evening closed with light-hearted games of Heads and Tails, which raised many thousands of pounds for the Care Workers Charity, which helps carers who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own.

The party continued with entertainment sponsored by Pinders including music from well-known band ‘Co-Stars’ well into the small hours.

The National Care Awards is the longest established and biggest Care Awards by a significant margin. Its rigorous and personalised judging process using panels of independent judges, along with its glamour, make it the Awards most people want to win. Look out for the start of the next National Care Awards in June. After six months of nominations, selecting finalists and judging winners, all will again be revealed at another exciting night of celebrating the best people in social care.
