A fifth of NHS executives are quitting, says IDS

More than 20 per cent of NHS chief executives are leaving the service, despite revelations that their pay increases have been above other staff groups. Commenting on the NHS Boardroom Pay Report published in January by Incomes Data Services (IDS), Stuart Marples, chief executive of the Institute of Healthcare Management said that despite pay increases on average a little above five per cent, turnover was probably as high, if not higher at nearly 20 per cent, than for any other staff group. “The survey records an overall pay increase for chief executives of just over five per cent, but with wide variations,” Mr Marples said. “It is not hard to find reasons for this and Incomes Data Services rightly recognises the likely reasons.
