Abbeyfield shelves nursing home project

Plans for a new nursing home on the Isle of Wight have been abandoned after planners added restrictions and because of funding cutbacks.

In 2004 the Abbeyfield Society gained planning permission to build a 48-bed nursing home on the outskirts of Ryde. The estimated cost was £4 million, but the development had to be scaled down after planners said the development would occupy too much agricultural land.
