Vanessa Dalton decided to take time out of her usual day working for Healthcare Homes to experience the practical side of the care home industry. Ms Dalton, who has worked for Healthcare Homes since its inception in August 2005, joined the maintenance team at Barking Hall in Suffolk to assist with a number of duties including painting, DIY and gardening. “I was keen to go back to the ‘shop floor’ as it is a fantastic way of understanding the business from a different perspective,” said Ms Dalton. “It is good for the staff working with our residents to see that every member of the company is prepared to get ‘their hands dirty’. “The day at the home made me feel that we are all part of the same team. It was a very positive experience.” Barking Hall, one of 16 homes owned and managed by Colchester-based Healthcare Homes, now has an extra 23 rooms, all with ensuite facilities
