Bamber – long term care is under funded

The Coverage Care Group, which manages the largest family of care homes for older people in Gloucestershire, has announced the appointment of Len Bamber as managing director for its principal operating company Coverage Care (GIoucestershire). Mr Bamber says the long term care sector remains significantly under-funded, both locally and nationally. “Implementation of last year’s proposals from the Royal Commission – that central government should pay for the nursing care needed by any elderly person regardless of their means – is long overdue as a first step towards proper funding,” Mr Bamber said. “Care of the older person has long been seen as the ‘Cinderella’ of nursing. In fact, it has always been and is becoming increasingly highly skilled and highly varied and we need to attract high quality nurses and carers to this expanding sector.” Bamber, 53, joined Coverage Care last year from Bristol Cancer Help, where he was director of personnel, finance and administration.
