Barchester Healthcare, which has just published its 2002 Annual Report, has been named the 66th fastest profit-growth firm in the UK by the Sunday Times “Profit Track 100” – a position earned by the fact that Barchester grew profits by 43 per cent year on year from £1.5m in 1998 to £4.5m in 2001. Barchester Healthcare continued to produce excellent results in 2002, with the group’s annual report showing some impressive figures. Operating profit rose from £4.130 million in 2001 to £5.650 million in the year to December 31, 2002. Group turnover rose from £27.527 million in 2001 to £37.945 million in the year to December 31, 2002. Last year Barchester acquired nine homes with a total 570 beds, with a potential to develop an additional 67 beds. Today the group owns 38 healthcare homes with provision for 2407 beds. Of these beds, 92 per cent are purpose built, 85 per cent are in single rooms and 85 per cent have full ensuite facilities. This probably constitutes the highest-quality portfolio in the sector.
