CareTech wins top family business award

CareTech Holdings plc has been named “Best UK Family Business, Southern England and Wales Region”, in the £25m-plus turnover category of the Coutts Prize for Family Business 2007/ 2008. The company will now go on to compete in the £25m-plus category at the national finals in June.

CareTech was founded by two brothers, Haroon and Farouq Sheikh in 1993. In October 2005, the business was listed on the London Stock Exchange and became the only listed specialist learning disability provider. The company has experienced strong turnover growth in successive years, particularly in 2006 when there was a 75% increase in client capacity.

CareTech currently has 141 residential care homes and five day care centres located predominantly in the South of England and the West Midlands and continues to grow through a combination of organic and acquisition initiatives.

David Harvey, regional chairman of the Coutts Prize evaluation committee, described CareTech as a successful first generation
