CCC says report highlights need for radical review

Long term care lobby group CCC says the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) report on attitudes to care funding provides inescapable evidence of the need for urgent reform of a long-term care funding system that is inequitable, incoherent and financially unsustainable. CCC says the report confirms the findings of April’s report from the Wanless Social Care Review, that fundamental reforms and more resources are needed. CCC chairmans Dr Clive Bowman said a radical review was needed of how growing care needs can be met, and the size of the task must not daunt the working group appointed recently by the care services minister to review social care funding. “JRF and Wanless have done us all a great service by asking the right questions, marshalling the evidence and presenting clear, costed options for reform.,” said Dr Bowman. “We now need open, honest debate and then bold decision-making by government.
