CT Interview – Mark Ellerby

|Caring Times editor Geoff Hodgson speaks to the managing director of BUPA Care Services| Prior to his career with BUPA Care Services, Mark Ellerby had worked as an accountant with the City firm of Touche-Ross. In this role he acted as an adviser to several large big companies ­ both in the UK and overseas ­ in various sectors including the mining, pharmaceutical and retail industries. “I think of myself as an ex-accountant now, although it¹s still part of my job to keep a close eye on the numbers,” Mr Ellerby said. “After spending 10 years as an advisor to other companies, I began to feel I wanted to do something different. I became quite involved with the companies I worked with but, as an advisor, I would move on to another project with another company. The thought of making executive decisions, and then living with the outcome of those decisions, appealed to me.” In 1993 Mr Ellerby saw a story in the business pages of the Telegraph announcing that BUPA intended to float and was putting together a new m
