Chris Davies has joined the board of not-for-profit provider Somerset Care as a non-executive director.

Mr Davies a former Director of Social Services at Somerset County Council and was closely involved in the discussions and decisions that took place in County Hall in 1990, which led to the creation of Somerset Care in 1991. He retired from that post in 2003 and moved to Cardiff City Council as Director of Social Services. He has since “retired” again and is now actively running his own business. Mr Davies is also a former president of the Association of Directors of Social Services.

Somerset Care’s results for 2006/7 show that the group’s turnover for the last financial year crossed the £50m barrier. The group continues to grow and now provides care and training services in many southern counties.
