Design guide assists conversion projects

The Abbeyfield Society has published a specialist guide to embrace the need for updating and adapting properties for modern care requirements. The Design Guide, produced in partnership with PRP Architects who have extensive experience in the field, provides detailed guidance for Abbeyfield societies and their consultants in order that refurbishment projects can meet the best possible standards. Although not an actual development manual, the guide aims to offer advice on all issues to be considered when refurbishing or remodelling a property. Abbeyfield, the largest provider of very sheltered housing in the voluntary sector, owns almost 1,000 houses, many of which were converted from large family homes. The Guide, funded jointly by the national Lottery Charities Board and Abbeyfield, is available from Abbeyfield, priced £25. telephone 01727 857536 or write to Abbeyfield House, 53 Victoria Street, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 3UW.
