Ending variations in homecare
John Hutton, Health Minister, has announced the Government’s proposal to establish a new body, the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), as part of the continued drive to modernise social services across the country and tackle the variations in quality and standards of services that exist between authorities. The work of the Institute will supplement the introduction of the new national minimum standards for all regulated services such as care homes and domiciliary care providers. It will draw up new guidelines on high quality social care practice and models of service delivery which will form the basis for inspections by the National Care Standards Commission and Best Value reviews.
