European funding gives boost to sheltered housing studies

The Centre for Sheltered Housing Studies (CSHS) has secured major funding through the European Funding Stream, known as “Equal”, to support and promote initiatives in which the residents of sheltered housing and the schemes themselves play an active role in contributing to community regeneration and lifelong learning. The CSHS project will develop and pilot models to support lifelong learning and community regeneration through the active participation of sheltered housing residents, staff and volunteers. The Equal funding will enable the CSHS to build on the results of successful local initiatives and inform national initiatives to promote active ageing and inter-generational learning, addressing the social exclusion, both of disadvantaged communities and of elderly people.
