Independent bodies must have bigger role
Independent health and social care bodies must have a bigger role in helping Primary Care Trusts, Primary Care Groups and Care Trusts to achieve their objectives for the NHS. This is the view of the Independent Healthcare Association (IHA), which says there is still room for improvements in the commissioning of front line health and social care services. IHA chief executive Barry Hassell said that the independent sector currently delivered one million surgical procedures a year and provided one hundred million nights of residential and nursing home care. “The sector has become a significant resource for NHS patients to benefit from,” Mr Hassell said.
