| Outrage at feeding tube allegations |

Caring Times, February 2010

Jan 6: Barchester Healthcare Chief Executive Mike Parsons has defended the care sector against a damning report by the Royal College of Physicians and British Society of Gastroenterology.
The report titled 'Oral feeding difficulties and dilemmas: a guide to practical care, particularly towards the end of life' condemns the over use of artificial tubes in care homes. It claims the procedure is used inappropriately to ease the workload of care home staff. Mike Parsons strongly refuted this allegation on Channel 4 Evening News on 6th and said: 'I am incensed by this report. It's just fundamentally inaccurate. Nursing homes do not make the decision as to whether to introduce artificial feeding - it is always a clinical decision.'
