Mario’s vision is realised with launch of care academy

At the Wales Care Awards, held in October and organised by Care Forum Wales, the unsung heroes of the Welsh social care sector were acknowledged by the Minister of Health and Social Services at a glittering event in Cardiff’s City Hall. While the annual event – now in it1s third year – is a welcome reward for those whose work in the care sector goes unnoticed much of the year, for Care Forum Wales chief executive Mario Kreft it was one of the first steps in a much longer-term vision. His vision – which was realised in October – is the creation of a membership body by the name of The Academy of Care Practitioners which will serve the needs of thousands of care workers. “This is one of the most significant announcements in years for the health and social care workforce,” said Mr Kreft. “It1s aimed at those working at the sharp end of the sector. There is no duplication here – it1s a totally new concept which will work in tandem with the Care Council for Wales code of practice and qualifications framework.” Acti
