Milestone for Stannah Stairlifts

Stannah Stairlifts has just celebrated the 200,000th stairlift rolling off its production line. This is a major landmark for such a specialist product, and reinforces the Stannah Lifts Group’s position as a world leader. This is further strengthened by Stannah’s gaining three Queen’s Awards for Export Achievement. Stannah is a British family lift company founded way back in the mid-nineteenth century. Early in the 1970s Stannah saw that there was a need for a piece of equipment which would help people move between the different floors in private houses. As a result the company developed and marketed its first stairlift in 1975. Exports started in 1979. By 1989, 50,000 stairlifts had been sold and November 1994 saw the 100,000 landmark reached. Now, in spring 2001, the next major milestone, that of sales of 200,000 stairlifts, has been achieved.
