Report shows elderly people to be the biggest losers in an unwieldy system

This very readable report will, I believe, come to be regarded as the definitive commentary on the present state of long term care provision in the UK. No care home owner should be without a copy. Written by Charlotte Argyle, Les Bright and Alison Clarke, there is much in the report concerning local authority commissioning practices which will rings bells of sympathy with private providers. Using real-life examples the report amply demonstrates how local authorities often give only lip-service to Choice of Accommodation Directions (see Peter Grose’s article on Page 10 of this issue of the Caring Times), and that they are often quick to reconsider their decisions when challenged by an informed advocate of the elderly person concerned.
