Saxon Weald secures grant funds for extracare scheme

Specialist healthcare contractor Castleoak Construction has been awarded a £4.2m contract for the construction of a new extracare scheme in Billingshurst, West Sussex, in its first partnership with affordable housing provider Saxon Weald. The project is being developed in partnership with Horsham District Council, Horsham & Chanctonbury Primary Care Trust and West Sussex County Council, and is the first extracare scheme in the West Sussex area to win a Department of Health grant. The scheme will provide 40 flats for frail older people, consisting of 28 flats for affordable rents, 10 flats for shared ownership and two flats will be used as an intermediate care facility and respite accommodation. Assistive technology will be incorporated to help residents maintain their independence for as long as possible. The flats will be generously sized to allow full wheelchair access and will include ensuite level access showers, a community alarm system, TV connected to a CCTV camera at the main entrance to see callers
