Scottish Caring Congress 2011 |
The 3rd Scottish Caring and Dementia Congress 2011 was a great success and opportunity for all those working with older people, be it in residential care, in the community or in specialist care settings, to get together to achieve what we all want - the best possible care for those we work with.
Support and care for people with dementia and their carers was a strong thread running through the programme.
Alongside a rich selection of topics and speakers highlighting new developments and best practice across the whole range of care settings, this year we focussed in particular on two very important issues:
* the physical aspects of caring for people with dementia, and the importance of recognising and treating co-existing physical conditions, pain and discomfort.
* care and support for people with dementia in acute hospitals. The specialist demands of this group have become increasingly acknowledged, but the expertise and experience to satisfy them is in short supply.
