Sweetbaum joins Barchester

Barry Sweetbaum, the man who brought Sunrise Assisted Living into the UK, has joined Barchester Healthcare as business development director. Mr Sweetbaum has spent all his working life in healthcare and also has an MBA from London Business School. Among several roles, he has been an internal auditor in a health authority, a manager at The Royal Marsden cancer hospital and worked as a healthcare consultant for a major consultancy firm. In 1997, after having identified an unfulfilled need for up-market assisted living in the UK, Mr Sweetbaum approached the American brand leader and together they put forward a programme for the launch of Sunrise Assisted Living into the UK market. The very successful Frognal House development in Sidcup, Kent, opened to great acclaim and is now both full and has won several awards. Sunrise has subsequently rolled out with major new build developments at Virginia Water and Elstree.
