Joan Chappell, a trainer, NVQ adviser and internal verifier with HICA Specialised Care Homes, has received a National Training Awards commendation in recognition of her continuous journey of learning throughout her career in the care industry. Joan started her career as a part time care assistant and, through learning and development, progressed to become the manager of a residential care home before taking up her present position with HICA. Joan said she was pleased to be in a position to assist other carers with their learning and development as part of HICA¹s commitment to supporting qualification and career opportunities for all staff. Despite leaving school with no qualifications, Joan achieved a distinction in her Masters degree which she completed this year.
