Free holidays for children in care

Children in residential care homes are eligible for free holidays in the UK and abroad under a Family Holiday Association scheme called Time2Care. The holidays, provided by the travel industry, are available to all young people who have spent more than three months in care. Cr Rita Stringfellow, chair of the Local Government Association’s social affairs and health executive said 118 groups had been booked in so far, but there were plenty more which had not yet taken up the offer. “Every local authority with children in residential care should be taking advantage of this offer,” Cr Stringfellow said. “It is great for the young people and does not use up local authority resources. There are also free flights and accommodation for carers who look after the groups.” Project manager Katie Mierins the Time2Care project had been offered thousands of holidays from tour operators, with options on two, three and four star hotels in every resort in the Mediterranean, plus adventure and camping holidays, and even footbal
