Moreton named as top earner

Southern Cross Healthcare founder John Moreton appeared 21st in the recent Sunday Times list of Britain¹s top 100 earners in the past year. Mr Moreton, who is estimated to have reaped £28.8 million in the year, appeared just below Britain¹s world champion boxer Lennox Lewis and pop idol creator Simon Fuller who were joint 19th and just above author J K Rowling of Harry Potter fame. Mr Moreton built up Ascot based Southern Cross to be Britain¹s third biggest operator of care homes before selling the company in August in a management buy-out for £80 million. Once £35 million of debt was stripped out, this left him with £28.8 from the Moreton family¹s 64 per cent stake in the company.
