Southern Cross opens 31-bed extension

Major provider Southern Cross Healthcare has opened of a 31-bed extension to the Pond Park care centre in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Pond Park is a converted three-storey Victorian house which opened as a care centre in 1985. It presently offers 24 general nursing beds. The new extension offers 31 single rooms, 29 of which have ensuite facilities. The care centre offers wheelchair access, nutritious home cooking, an activities programme, hairdresser, chiropodist and regular visits from the local clergy. The garden area of Pond Park is shortly being refurbished with new seating areas, plants and a fountain. The care centre has been managed by Esther McAlpine since its opening in 1985. “There is an excellent team of staff in place at Pond Park and we pride ourselves on providing high quality care in a friendly, homely environment,” said Ms McAlpine. “We’ve had a fantastic response to the new extension from the local community and the demand for places has been exceptional, highlighting the need for beds of this
